Reykjavik based band Mono Town’s debut album ‘In The Eye Of The Storm’ has just received two awards at the prestigious Iceland Music Awards – walking home with the coveted ‘Best Rock Album’ and ‘Best Rock Song for ‘Peacemaker’. No mean feat given the quality & quantity of music coming out of Iceland right now.
The album has been described as an exceptionally well written and crafted body of work which builds on equal proportions of beauty, drama and melody and manages to add perfectly sized fractions of narrative tension and rawness into to the songs.
Mono Town consists of multi-instrumentalist brothers – Börkur Hrafn Birgisson & Daði Birgisson, and lead vocalist & guitarist, Bjarki Sigurðsson. Self-produced and recorded by the band, the album was recorded in Reykjavik and then travelled to New York to be mixed by the Grammy Award Winning mixer, Michael Brauer. The band also took a unique approach and formed a, never-been-done-before, relationship with the International streaming service, Deezer. They released music in the first instance exclusively on Deezer and in just under two months received just over 1,250,000 million international streams on the site. To-date, the album has hit #1 on the Deezer Album Charts in Iceland, Canada, Brazil, Ireland, Italy and Turkey & featured in the # Top 5 charts in Columbia, Germany, Mexico, Singapore and the UK & delivered 3 No. 1 singles on Icelandic National Radio Station, Ras 2. ‘In The Eye Of The Storm’ is garnering growing attention & support from afar including KEXP Radio in Seattle and an invitation from The Pixies to join them as special guests on a selection of recent Euorpean dates. Not content to sit still, they have also recently scored an original soundtrack to the critically acclaimed documentary Oli Prik & mixed tracks for Manchester alt rock band Noir|Noir & UK trip-hop outfit No///Ceremony.
